KUUPKULGUR

DEMONSTRATOR

PLATFORM

A project funded by the Estonian government through research and development funds.

Development of an efficient navigation camera system for micro-rovers

The KuupKulgur team has embarked on a new project to identify the needs and requirements of an efficient modular camera system for future lunar surface navigation. The project aims at researching state-of-the-art camera system technologies and utilizing the unique platforms available to KuupKulgur to test and develop a capable camera system for lunar rovers (and micro-rovers like KuupKulgur). The project is financed from the state budget with funds for financing research and development activities.

Autonomous Navigation development of KuupKulgur

Our student team has embarked on the challenging journey of developing higher functional autonomy aboard KuupKulgur. This is a key step towards any future lunar surface mission! Through this project, the team is researching and developing localisation, navigation, and control solutions for KuupKulgur. The development of autonomous capabilities allows KuupKulgur rovers to gain situational awareness and perform tasks with minimal human intervention, a key milestone towards future lunar surface exploration!

The project is financed from the state budget with funds for financing research and development activities.

Student Led Initiative

KuupKulgur is a student led project conceptualized at Tartu Observatory, University of Tartu.

The project team consists of bachelors, masters and doctoral students with a common goal for developing Estonia's first Lunar cube-rover platform.

Through the project, students get hands-on-experience into the challenging task of Lunar rover systems design, spanning from mechanical, electrical & electronic, software and robotic systems.

The KuupKulgur team welcomes any student to join us!
